  • Karate & BJJ Intro Classes Karate intro classes introduce new students to the basic kicks, strikes, blocks, and etiquette of Tang Soo Do; BJJ Intro classes are for kids to learn some of the fundamental techniques of BJJ. Generally, the intro class period lasts around 3 weeks, but varies based on the individual student, how quickly they learn, and how often they can attend.
  • Tang Soo Do Karate A traditional Korean martial art, Tang Soo Do combines kicks, strikes, blocks, and is a powerful tool for self-defense as well as artistic expression through combative movement. Training also results in the development of individual character, discipline, respect, and physical fitness. Sa Bom Nim Kathleen Degnan teaches our Tang Soo Do classes, including the advanced Red Belt/Black Belt Class. For more information, see Karate @ 606.
  • Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu BJJ emphasizes grappling, ground fighting, take downs, and submission holds and is a crucial component of a well-rounded set of self-defense skills. Students can enroll in just the BJJ program, or combine it with karate and eskrima classes. Coach Justin Metcalfe teaches all of our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes, which are open to students of all ages. For more information, see BJJ @ 606.
  • MMA Fundamentals If you want to develop a deeper understanding of the application of your techniques and take your fighting skills to the next level, check out our MMA Fundamentals class. Combining striking, kicking, grappling, and offensive and defensive movements, fight theory and strategy, students can put their skills to use in a practical context. Open to all karate students, ages 13 and up. Coach Hank Hoffmann teaches our MMA Fundamentals classes. For more information, see MMA @ 606.
  • Kali-Eskrima Eskrima is a traditional Filipino martial art, which focuses on weapons-based fighting including sticks, blades, and “improvised” weapons, as well as empty hand techniques. It complements and enhances both our striking and grappling martial arts. The Kampilan style was developed by Guro Edie Mesina over decades of training and practical application. Instructor Chloe Washabaugh teaches our Eskrima classes, which are open to students 10 and up. For more information, see Eskrima @ 606.
